Goby- Pacific Jade Sleeper Medium/Large
The Pacific Jade Sleeper Goby, also known as the Fat Sleeper (Dormitator maculatus), is a large, omnivorous fish native to the Americas that can grow up to 28 inches long. It is characterized by a robust, tube-shaped body and a striking jade-green hue. These fish are valued in aquariums for their personality and their ability to sift through the substrate to oxygenate the sand bed. They can be territorial and predatory, so they are often best kept in a species-only tank with a sandy substrate, plenty of rocks, and ample hiding places.
Physical characteristics
Size: Can grow to approximately 28 inches, or 70 cm, in length.
Color: Features a distinctive jade-green hue.
Shape: Robust, tube-shaped body with a flat head and two distinct dorsal fins.
Natural habitat: Found in a variety of environments from freshwater channels, rivers, and marshes to brackish mangrove forests along coastlines.
Tank environment: Prefers a large tank with a sandy substrate and plenty of hiding spots like rocks and caves.
Behavior: Can be peaceful but is known to be predatory towards smaller fish. They are also territorial, so they are best housed alone or with similarly sized tank mates. They spend much of their time sifting through the substrate, which helps keep the sand bed oxygenated.
Diet
Omnivorous: Feeds on a variety of foods, including invertebrates, plants, and sediments.
Aquarium diet: A varied diet of meaty foods like earthworms, shrimp, and high-quality pellets is recommended.
