Guppy- Ribbon Assorted
A guppy ribbon fish is a variety of the tropical guppy (ππππππππ πππ‘πππ’πππ‘π) distinguished by its exceptionally long, flowing fins, particularly the tail and dorsal fins. These fish are known for their vibrant colors, which can include golden, violet, or other hues, and are generally peaceful and hardy. They are suitable for beginners and community aquariums but require a lid to prevent them from jumping.
Physical characteristics
Fins: The defining feature is the long, elegant, "ribbon-like" fins, especially the tail and dorsal fins, which can be much longer than in a standard guppy.
Coloration: Ribbon guppies come in many vibrant colors, such as 24k gold, Moscow violet, and yellow.
Size: Males are smaller than females and have the colorful, ornamental fins, while females are typically larger and less vibrant.
Behavior and care
Temperament: They are peaceful and social, making them good for community tanks.
Habitat: Ribbon guppies are active, often found at the top of the water column, but they are also prone to jumping. Therefore, a tank with a lid or canopy is necessary to prevent them from escaping.
Diet: They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, live or frozen foods (like brine shrimp and bloodworms), and plant matter.
Aquarium conditions: They prefer temperatures of 74β78βπΉ (23β26βπΆ) and a pH of 6.5-7.5. Regular water changes and good filtration are important.
Breeding: They are livebearers and are easy to breed. However, the long fins on males can make breeding difficult in some cases, so using non-ribbon males with ribbon females is a good strategy to pass on the ribbon trait.
