Appearance

  • Male: Bright orange/yellow body, a yellow dorsal fin, and a dark blue/black throat and belly, especially during breeding season.

  • Female: Paler, less vibrant colors, often with a faint horizontal stripe, and a more rounded dorsal fin.

  • Fins: Has a unique pair of thread-like ventral fins that it uses to feel its surroundings.

  • Varieties: Available in wild, gold, and sunset varieties. 

Behavior and temperament 

  • Peaceful: Generally peaceful and suitable for community tanks with other non-aggressive species like tetras and rasboras.

  • Aggression: Male honey gouramis can be territorial and aggressive towards other males, especially in smaller tanks.

  • Activity: They are shy and prefer calmer, low-flow water, often staying in the mid to upper levels of the tank. 

Habitat and care
