Goby- Clown Yellow
The yellow clown goby (Gobiodon \text{ } okinawae) is a small, bright yellow, peaceful saltwater fish known for its vivid color and personality. It has a slim profile, is well-suited for beginner and nano-reef tanks, and spends its time perching on corals or in the open. While generally compatible with other fish, it may nip at SPS corals and can be territorial with other yellow clown gobies unless in a compatible pair.
Appearance
Color: Bright yellow body, sometimes with hints of green or blue.
Size: Small, reaching a maximum of about 2 inches (or 1 inch, depending on the source).
Profile: Slim and streamlined.
Behavior and temperament
Personality: Outgoing and bold with a lot of personality.
Habitat: Native to the Indo-Pacific, they are often found perching on branching corals and live rock.
Social: Peaceful and reef-safe, but can be territorial with other yellow clown gobies unless they are a mated pair.
Interaction with Corals: They may cause certain corals, like zoanthids, to retract when they perch on them, but they do not harm the coral. However, they may nip at the polyps of SPS corals.
Tank Behavior: Often seen out in the open, sitting on the front glass, and darting around corals.
Care and compatibility
Tank Size: Well-suited for smaller tanks, including nano reefs.
Diet: Omnivorous, eating a varied diet of small frozen foods, brine shrimp, and quality flakes or pellets.
Compatible Tank Mates: Other peaceful reef-safe fish, invertebrates like shrimp, and live rock/sand.
Incompatible Tank Mates: Larger predatory fish such as groupers, lionfish, sharks, and rays.
Recommended Environment: Live rock and branching corals for perching and shelter, and live rock/sandbed.
