Cichlid - Kribensis Rock

The Kribensis, also known as the Kribensis Rock Cichlid or Pelvicachromis pulcher, is a small and colorful cichlid species native to West Africa. Here are the general requirements for keeping Kribensis Rock Cichlids:

1. Aquarium Size: Kribensis Rock Cichlids are relatively small and can be kept in a tank with a capacity of around 20 gallons (75 liters) for a pair or small group. Provide sufficient hiding spots and territories, as they are territorial and appreciate their own space.

2. Water Parameters: Kribensis Rock Cichlids prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. Aim for a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and a water temperature between 75-82°F (24-28°C). Maintain good water quality by performing regular water changes and ensuring proper filtration.

3. Filtration: Use a filtration system appropriate for the size of your aquarium to maintain excellent water quality. A combination of mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration is recommended. Ensure the water flow is not too strong, as Kribensis prefer calmer water.

4. Decorations: Provide plenty of hiding spots and territories with rocks, caves, driftwood, and live or artificial plants. Kribensis Rock Cichlids appreciate a well-decorated aquarium with lots of hiding spots to establish their territories and reduce aggression. Dense vegetation and rocky structures mimic their natural habitat.

5. Tank Mates: Kribensis Rock Cichlids are generally peaceful but can become territorial during breeding. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or fin-nipping species. Compatible tank mates include small, peaceful fish that can coexist without posing a threat. Avoid housing them with other cichlids that may outcompete or bully them.

6. Feeding: Kribensis Rock Cichlids are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods. Provide them with high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes as a staple food. Supplement their diet with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, and small invertebrates. Offering a varied diet helps promote their overall health and coloration.
