Cichlid - Heckelii Albino
The Heckelii Cichlid, also known as the Threadfin Acara or Acarichthys heckelii, is a beautiful and sought-after cichlid species. Here are the general requirements for keeping Heckelii Cichlids:
Aquarium Size: Heckelii Cichlids are relatively large and require an adequately sized aquarium. A tank with a capacity of at least 50 gallons (190 liters) is recommended for a pair or small group of Heckelii Cichlids. Providing ample swimming space and territories is important to accommodate their natural behavior.
Water Parameters: Heckelii Cichlids prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. Aim for a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and a water temperature between 76-82°F (24-28°C). Maintain good water quality by performing regular water changes and ensuring proper filtration.
Filtration: Use a filtration system appropriate for the size of your aquarium to maintain excellent water quality. Consider using a canister filter or a combination of mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration. Efficient filtration is important as cichlids can produce a significant amount of waste.
Decorations: Provide ample hiding places, caves, and visual barriers with rocks, driftwood, and plants. Heckelii Cichlids appreciate a well-decorated aquarium with lots of hiding spots to establish their territories and reduce aggression. Live plants can be added, but be aware that they may be uprooted or damaged by the cichlids' digging behavior.
Tank Mates: Heckelii Cichlids are generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behavior, especially during breeding. Avoid keeping them with small or passive fish that may be intimidated or harassed. Compatible tank mates include other similarly sized and temperamentally compatible cichlids or larger peaceful community fish.
Feeding: Heckelii Cichlids are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods. Provide them with a balanced diet that includes high-quality pellets or flakes formulated for cichlids. Supplement their diet with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small invertebrates. Occasional vegetable matter can also be offered.
